The lecturer, in charge of the two courses, Dr. (Mrs.) Juliet Nkeonyeasua Ossai explained that kinship and marriage were fundamental aspects of social studies focusing on social structures and relationships within families and communities.

To deepen the students' understanding of the concepts, she engaged them from different ethnic backgrounds and showcased practical knowledge.

Dressed in different attires showing their tribes which included lgbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ndokwa, lka, Edo, Urhobo, and Igalla, the students demonstrated real life cases of traditional marriage procedures and traditional food.

Under the supervision of Dr. ( Mrs.) Ossai, the students prepared different traditional soup such as ujuju soup, ofikere, ofede, ewedu, and black soup. They were served with fufu, amala, and starch to the admiration of the staff and other students.

In an exclusive interview with The UNIDEL Media Team, the students Ukah Onyeka, Nwose Kate, Okoye Gloria, Shalom, Abby Faith Oluwa, Ogabo Susan and James Elizabeth expressed gratitude to the department for giving them the opportunity to put into practice what they were taught in class.

The Head of the Department, Dr.( Mrs.) Helen Ajudeonu, who was visibly overwhelmed by the performance of the students, commended the University Management for creating the enabling environment for practical learning.

She noted that the Priorities of Social Studies Education as a course helps the students to comprehend the complexities of societal issues such as inequality, justice, and human rights. She added that it enables the students to gain insights into tackling possible global challenges like climate change, conflict, and domestic violence.

She stressed further that the practical experience has reminded the students, the importance of their dialect, traditional food and the need to marry from any tribe as marrying within the same ethnic group is not a guarantee for a successful married life.

Dr. Ajudeonu thanked the lecturers in the department for their high level of commitment, co-operation, contributions, and unwavering support towards the academic growth of the students.

She enjoined the students to remain focused, disciplined, and target excellent results.
