*Delta State Contributory Health Commission Flags- Off Health Insurance Programme ln UNIDEL*


In a bid to provide comprehensive health services to UNIDEL students, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission on Tuesday, 20th February 2024, flagged off the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme (TlSHlP) on the main campus.
The Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr lssac Akpoveta stated that the Scheme holds immense benefit for the students of University of Delta, Agbor and assured them that their health needs will be adequately addressed wherever they are as TISHIP extends its coverage beyond the borders of Delta State.
Dr Akpoveta said the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC)was established by the Delta State Contributory Health Commission Law of 2015, which was enacted to provide a legal framework for the administration of healthcare financing, provision and delivery in Delta State.
He noted that since inception, the DSCHC has made remarkable progress in fulfilling its mandate.
While commending the Delta State Government for his tremendous support to the commission, Dr Akpoveta expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the University Management team for their support and commitment to the TISHlP program, stressing that their collaboration with DSCHC will play a pivotal role in advancing the State Government's agenda, particularly in safeguarding the welfare of students.
"I want to reiterate our commitment to ensuring that healthcare remains accessible and affordable for all residents of Delta State. With initiative like TISHlP, we are taking significant strides towards achieving this goal, and l urge all stakeholders to continue to support our efforts as we work together to build a healthier and more prosperous Delta State
The Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke thanked the commission for introducing the scheme to the institution.
She said that it was an avenue to encourage the students to key into the programme, and the management had made necessary payments of seven thousand naira each for all the students.
Prof Chiemeke urged the students to feel free to visit the hospitals with the registered card whenever they have health challenge.
The commission registered some of the students and appealed to others to make themselves available as the registration would take about ten days.
The high point of the event was the presentation of an award by the commission to UNIDEL VC, Prof. Stella Chiemeke in recognition of her contribution towards health in Delta State.
The DSCHC was received by the University Management, which included the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Patricia Etuna, the Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, Bursar Mr Sunny Ikeogwu and the University Librarian Dr Mrs Vera Okonoko Others were the health of UNIDEL health centre, Mrs Akporhere, the Dean Students Advisory Services comrade Nwabukwu Azani and a host of others.
