*Prevail On Landlords To Reduce rent, VC Appeals to Ika South Chairman*
In
a bid to reduce the outrageous rents paid by students of the
University of Delta Agbor in Aliahme and it's environs, the Vice
Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Stella Chiemeke has called for the
sensitization of Landlords in the area.
Prof.
Chiemeke made the call when she led her management team on a courtesy
visit to the executive chairman of lka South Local Government Area,
Engr. Jerry Ehiwario.
Condemning
the ugly development, the Vice Chancellor appealed to the chairman of
the Council to liaise with the Landlords Association to address the
issue as some of the students who pay between #400,000 to #500,000 for a
one room apartment have been boxed to a tight corner financially which
had also affected their ability to attend to other urgent needs.
While
congratulating the chairman on his election victory, the Vice
Chancellor urged him to give priority attention to the welfare of UNIDEL
students as most of the students were already getting disenchanted with
the accommodation problem.
Prof.
Chiemeke also drew the attention of the chairman to other issues which
included, the state of security, the road separating the faculty of
Science from other faculties in the main campus as well as donation of
lands to the Institution' by Oki and Mbiri communities.
Responding,
Engr. Jerry Ehiwario appreciated the management team for the visit
adding that UNIDEL has been transformed significantly under the
leadership of the Vice chancellor and sued for better collaboration and
synergy.
On security, the
Council Chairman stated that his administration would do everything
within its power to guarantee adequate security in the local council
area.
He further disclosed that
he would help to create awareness and sensitization on the need for
individuals to build hostels as such investments would help in the
reduction of the rents charged the students.
The
Vice Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof.
Patricia Mbah, the Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, the Bursar Mr.
Sunny Ikeogwu and the Librarian Dr. (Mrs.)Vera Okonoko.
