*UNlDEL Holds Workshop On Examination Ethics*

In a bid to reinforce the importance of honesty and ethical behavior during examinations and promote a culture of academic integrity, University of Delta Agbor, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, held a one day Examination Ethics Workshop for all academic staff at 500 Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Law, Owa Oyibu Campus.
In a speech, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke said the institution filmly believes that the value and validity of the academic assessments are the cornerstone of the education experience that is provided to the students.
Prof. Chiemeke urged the staff to take the workshop seriously as the university remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rules and regulations that govern it.
"Let us continue to work tirelessly to maintain the trust and confidence of our students, their families, and the community at large."
"It is crucial we clearly define what constitutes cheating, encourage our students and take responsibility for their actions, and empower them to make ethical decisions."
The first lecture on the Conduct of Examination: The Roles of Deans and Hods in Enforcing Examination Ethics was delivered by Prof. Eddy Erhagbe, who looked at the pertinent responsibilities of the Deans and Hods in ensuring the integrity of the entire examination processes.
Prof. Erhagbe also tutored the academic staff on the importance of teaching the students the necessary things at the appropriate time, maintaining guidelines for marking scheme as well as following due procedures in result computation and presentation.
Prof. Francisca Egbokhare gave a comprehensive lecture on Examination Management: A Critical Component of an Evaluation Process in a University System. She delved into the best practices of managing examinations and maintaining the intergrity of the evaluation processes. She also discussed the symbiotic relationship between learning, teaching, and examination as well as implementation strategies.
The third guest speaker, Ven. Prof. Mon Nwadiani spoke extensively on the topic: University Service Delivery with the Fear of God.
He pointed out the importance of upholding the principles of intergrity and ethical standards. He noted that some institutions of learning have been polluted and contaminated because of impunity, corruption, eye service, loss of intergrity, negative socialization, immorality, indiscipline, rudeness, wickedness, victimization, injustice and other evil vices. He, therefore, warned staff to desist from such behaviours and have the fear of God in the course of discharging their duties.
Prof. Nwadiani, while concluding his lecture, urged the staff to continually work with enthusiasm and apply the standard set by God as He was watching the activities of everyone.
The workshop also provided a question and answer session where staff asked the resource persons questions bothering them as they relate to their different departments.
