*Challenge Yourselves to Academic and Professional Greatness, UNIDEL VC Charges Performing Arts Students*
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta Agbor, Prof Stella Chiemeke has charged the 88 fresh students inducted into the Department of Performing Arts (Theatre Unit) to challenge themselves to academic and professional greatness and inspire others to do same.
Prof. Chiemeke said she was impressed by the excellent performance of the inductees through their display of skills and talents.
She noted that there was no doubt in her mind that the students would be potential actors/ actresses, entertainers, and ambassadors in the future.
She pointed out that the theme of the 2024 induction which is "Unleashing Untapped Talents" was very apt and in accordance with the philosophy of the institution which emphasizes harnessing the potentials of the students and molding them to be the best and leaders in their chosen areas of study.
Prof. Chiemeke enjoined the students to be ready to embark on a path of personal growth, fulfilment, and limitless possibilities, which the Department of Performing Arts, and indeed, the University of Delta offer.
"As you embark on this journey of expressing yourselves and your Arts, l wish to remind you that nothing good comes easy. There must be tribulations and challenges which, you must overcome by remaining strong and focused. "
The head of the department, Dr Kingsley Anyira presented the inducted students to the Vice Chancellor who was accompanied in the epoch-making event by her Deputy, Prof Patricia Etuna Mbah, the Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, the Bursar Mr. Sunny Ikeogwu and the University Librarian Dr (Mrs). Vera Okonoko.
The Dean of Faculty of Arts, Dr Caroline Ohen, commended the management team for the immense support to the department.
The chairman of the induction committee, Dr Chijioke Yankson Iyama in an exclusive interview with UNIDEL Media Team (UMT) disclosed that the induction ceremony was a theatrical rite that is carried out by the Department of Performing Arts, Theatre Arts Units, to absorb fresh students into the world of performance in a bid to enhance and instill in them, culture, creativity, ethics and discipline in the Arts profession.
Dr Iyama stated that the department was in a glorious dawn to rekindle the soul of culture in performance.
The induction ceremony also features purity, induction and abstract dances, drama, and a variety of shows.
Deans of various faculties, heads of department, directors, students, and staff from other institutions as well as some parents of the inductees, witnessed the colorful event.
