*My Vision Is to Produce Practical and Competent Engineers - Prof Obiazi*


Students in tertiary institutions have been charged to key into the practical aspects of learning with all sense of seriousness.
The Dean of Faculty of Engineering, University of Delta, Agbor, Prof (Engr) Obiazi Adagbonyin gave the charge while speaking to UNIDEL Media Team (UMT) in his office, on Wednesday, 8th May 2024.
Prof. Obiazi, a pioneer Dean of the Faculty, pointed out that his vision for UNIDEL is to nurture and graduate engineers who are practically sound and competent and who would serve as solution providers.
"Having worked as a Dean for 15 years in Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, president of all the Deans of Engineering in Africa, l have come to UNIDEL not to talk but to do."
"Nigeria has been talking since 1960 and nothing to show for it. Look at China today who has not been talking, they are manufacturing, producing, and designing. We want to produce graduates who are solution provider to others. We want to produce graduates who see problems ahead of time, graduates who are proactive and not inactive."
While commending the management for the provision of state-of-the-art facilities for practicals, the Dean noted that he was happy that the engineering students have started building and constructing.
He disclosed that some of the two hundred level students recently built a car park, extension socket, concrete poles, and other items.
As part of measures to show case the activities of the faculty, Prof. Obiazi disclosed that there would be a competition for students where prices would be presented.
He added that the faculty will establish UNIDEL Tech Fair that would parade captains of industry and who-is- who in Nigeria to see what the UNlDEL engineering students are capable of doing.
On staff growth and development, he said the Vice Chancellor, Prof Stella Chiemeke graciously sponsored all registered engineers to conference in 2022 and maintained that the Vice Chancellor has been firm and fair, and a gift to the citadel of learning.
He said his faculty has a crop of vibrant and hard-working staff who are driving the vision of both theory and practical.
