UNIDEL Conducts First SUG Election


University of Delta Agbor, one of the fastest growing universities in Africa on Saturday, 25th May 2024, conducted an election for the Students Union Government (SUG).
The election, which was done online, had the candidates' agents in the situation room where the voting process was captured live in a big projector.
The voting commenced at 8:06am and ended at 2:06pm.
Declaring the results, the chairman of the electoral committee comrade Azani Nwabukwu, said lghodaro Peter, a three hundred level student of Mass Communication Department emerged as the President with 1,259 votes to defeat his opponents, Ogwueleke Precious and Ojougboh Emeke who pulled 689 and 278 votes respectively.
For the position of the Vice President, Williams Christabel was Victorious with 856 votes. The other candidates, Onyema Agbarho Francis, scored 695 while Nwogu Loveday had 368.
The position for General Secretary was won by Okolo Wilma Kweneoyor with 956 votes. Her only rival, Micheal Progress Iruogene, polled 784 votes.
Onwuka Dumkele was returned unopposed as the Deputy General Secretary.
In the election for the position of financial secretary, Chukwekwu Fortune Nwabueze garnered 928 votes to defeat Ehima Peace and Akokomebe Ezekiel who scored 392442 votes respectively.
Unabor Paul Godwin was declared winner for the position of Treasurer, having scored 595 votes to defeat other three contestants, Dickson Peter 481 votes, Ubogu Loveth 433 votes and Erherha Kelly 379 votes.
In other elections, the position of auditor was won by Okolie Kosisochukwu with 947 votes, while Enebeli Peter Ifeakachukwu won the publicity Secretary with 856 votes.
For election into the Legislative Arm, two candidates, lmuetinyan Favor and Etuk Idongesit Bassey, won in the Faculty of Social Science.
Candidates from faculties of arts, engineering, law, computing, education, and environmental science were all returned unopposed.
They were Ugherughe Precious and Blessing Howard Adegor, Arts, Acha Ikechukwu Emmanuel and Ogberahwe Eguono Victory, Engineering, Eboibi Lynda AnwuliAmaliamifeobu Believe, Law.
Computing has Amaech Favor and Daigbe Joshua, while Koyaya Oghenero Favor Peter represents education. Otokwu Isaiah and Disi Blessing are for Management and Environmental Science.
Okpama Favour was elected female hall representative for Owa Oyibu Campus while Nwabuwe Liberty Ebube returned unopposed as male hall representative.
The Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof Stella Chiemeke who monitored the election with her Deputy Prof Patricia Mbah, the Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, the Bursar Mr Sunny Ikeogwu, the University Librarian Dr Mrs Vera Okonoko as well as members of the electoral committee commended the lCT Director, Dr Bridget Malosowe for a smooth exercise devoid of technical hitch.
Prof. Chiemeke also appreciated the candidates' agents for their comportment and spirit of sportsmanship exhibited throughout the election period.
National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, led by its chairman Precious Madsemite was among the group of observers. He gave kudo to UNIDEL Management for organizing a perfect online election, which, according to him, was transparent, credible, and generally accepted.
The agents to the contestants signed the result forms and accepted the outcome of the election.
