UNIDEL VC's Cup: Faculty Of Computing Wins Again

The Faculty of Computing, University of Delta Agbor has won the third edition of the Vice Chancellor's football tournament.

The Faculty of Computing defeated the faculty of Social Science 5: 3 via penalty shoot- out after a goal less draw in the regulation time .

The final match which was played at the University mini football stadium in the main campus attracted hundreds of sports enthusiasts within and outside the environment.

In a display of skills and tactics,both teams had many scoring chances but failed to convert any.

Earlier, the main Campus female team defeated their Owa Oyibu counterparts by a lone goal.

In her closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke said the participating teams were all at their best and showed the spirit of sports manship and enthusiasm.

" I congratulate you all on your brilliant performance. I am very thankful to you for providing us some very exciting moments of soccer".

" Sports like this gives a chance not only for bonding and recognizing winners within the University ,but gives a chance to showcase the competitive talent. A winner exists because someone dared to stand up and lose".

" No doubt, sports competition especially football fill us with joy which is a vital changes from the eyes of academic routines".

Prof. Chiemeke charged all the participating teams to continue to strive for excellence both in sports and academics .

The Director of Sports, UNIDEL, Mr Mike Mbidi in an interview with UNIDEL Media commended the Management for giving all necessary support needed for successful hosting of the annual event .

Mr Mbidi noted that he admired the outstanding performance of the teams , adding that he was confident that the male football team of the institution will do well in national tournament including NUGA.

The Sports Director appealed to private sector and the Delta State Government to help in developing the mini stadium and other sports complex in UNIDEL to enable it adequately prepare for future events.

The Vice Chancellor who watched the interesting and colourful event,presented the trophy to the champion, Faculty of Computing. Individual medals were also presented to the principal officers, the match officials as well as the SUG officials.
