Be Diligent in Your Duties - UNIDEL Registrar
Staff in tertiary institutions have been charged to always carry out their official assignments diligently to avoid being queried or punished.
The Registrar of University of Delta Agbor, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi gave the advice during the October edition of training for administrative, executive and secretariat carders held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the main campus.
Barrister Omagbemi said doing the right thing earns staff respect, foster collaboration, promotes growth and brings peace of mind.
" No boss can give you a query when you are doing the right thing. Be dutiful and be reminded of the University ethics".
While emphasizing the importance of accountability, responsibility, Integrity, transparency and excellence, the Registrar noted that by doing the right thing, a staff builds trust with his or her colleagues which enhances reputation and credibility.
He urged the staff to eradicate all forms of arrogance , indolence and be very meticulous during work as the University Management frowns at misconduct.
He enjoined Heads of various units to always respect and value their subordinates.
" As a boss, think outside the box. Think of how to achieve your set goals which would significantly contribute towards the growth of the institution".
As a boss, correct your staff administratively and avoid bullying or threats, he said.
Earlier, the guest speaker, Mr Broderick Opuofeni while lecturing on the topic " Managing your subordinates in the Public and Private service" ,discussed the different ways a boss or super-ordinate could manage their subordinates.
They include communication, setting precise and realistic deadlines when giving assignments, keeping a checklist to help monitor the process of the task delegated, rewarding good work generously, trying not to allow colleagues create distractions and taking an interest in what others are trying to achieve.
Mr Opuofeni also enumerated the ways/methods that a subordinate can use to manage their superordinates by taking relevant notes during meetings, being punctual at meeting, giving relevant or important information without constraints among others.
