University of Delta, Agbor was established by Delta State of Nigeria Law on 25th February 2021, Gazette No. 9, Vol. 31 of 4th March 2021. Established on the foundation of the former College of Education, Agbor, UNIDEL builds on decades of educational experience while advancing a new generation of teaching, research, innovation and human capital development.

Located strategically along the Benin–Asaba corridor, the University serves as a growing centre of higher learning, providing opportunities for students to acquire knowledge, develop practical skills and prepare for meaningful contributions to society and the world of work.

Our Campuses

We have 3 campuses; Agbor Campus which is the main campus, Owa-Alero Campus and 
Owa-Oyibu Campus, which provides a growing academic environment designed to support teaching, learning, research and community development.

Our History

From a 40-Year Educational Legacy to a University

The story of the University of Delta is rooted in a longstanding tradition of education in Agbor. UNIDEL was established by the Delta State Government on 25 February 2021, through enabling legislation, and formally gazetted in Delta State of Nigeria Gazette No. 9, Vol. 31 of 4 March 2021.

The University was established on the location, infrastructure and institutional systems of the former College of Education, Agbor, an institution with approximately four decades of educational experience at the time of the University’s establishment.

Before the transition to university status, the College of Education, Agbor had also operated affiliated Bachelor’s degree programmes in education for approximately 14 years.

This heritage provided UNIDEL with an established institutional foundation, experienced personnel, infrastructure and a community with a long history of advancing education.

Today, the University continues to build on that foundation while expanding its academic offerings, facilities, technology, research capacity and opportunities for students.

2021 — Establishment

The University of Delta, Agbor was established by the Delta State Government through enabling legislation.

A Legacy of Education

UNIDEL inherited the educational foundation, infrastructure and institutional experience of the former College of Education, Agbor.

A Growing Academic Community

The University has expanded its academic structure across multiple faculties, campuses and programmes.

Governing Council

The Governing Council is constituted as follows:
 
  • The Pro-Chancellor
  • The Vice-Chancellor
  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellors
  • The Provost of a Campus
  • Seven persons representing a variety of interests to be appointed by the Visitor
  • Four persons appointed by the Senate from among the members of the body
  • Two persons appointed by the Congregation from among its members one of whom shall be a senior non-teaching staff
  • The State Commissioner for Higher Education or his representative
  • The State Commissioner for Finance or his representative
  • The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission or his representative
