UNIDEL's History

The University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL) was officially established and commenced by the enabling law of the Delta State Government on the 25th of February 2021. Built directly upon the rich structural and academic legacy of the region, the institution was founded on the strategic location, infrastructure, and institutional systems of the pre-existing College of Education, Agbor. At the time of this historic transition, the defunct College of Education brought with it 40 years of academic heritage, including 14 successful years of operating affiliated Bachelor’s degree programmes in various education disciplines. This robust foundation provided a seamless launchpad for the university to rapidly scale its operations, transforming a legacy of teacher training into a comprehensive, multi-campus university network designed to meet contemporary global standards.

To optimize its vast institutional framework, UNIDEL distributes its operations across a vibrant three-campus network, creating specialized academic hubs that drive regional development. The Main Campus at Agbor serves as the central anchor, housing the core disciplines of Agriculture, Arts, Education, Science, and Computing, alongside an extensive medical block comprising Basic Medical, Basic Clinical, and Clinical Sciences. Technical and industrial innovation are concentrated at the Owa-Alero Campus, which is dedicated entirely to the Faculties of Engineering and Environmental Sciences. Meanwhile, professional and societal leadership programs find their home at the Owa-Oyibu Campus, which proudly hosts the Faculties of Law, Social Sciences, and Management Sciences, ensuring a balanced and high-impact academic footprint across Delta State.
